CREMANT OF ALSACE ...
The AOC has been set up with the decree of August 24, 1976 as amended by the February 20, 2002.
Cremant of Alsace is a white or pink sparkling wine produced by second fermentation in the bottle. The development of this type of wine follows very strict regulations : - The wines must be picked up handily - Only the wines from the following grapes (Riesling, Auxerrois, Chardonnay along with White, grey and Blanck Pinots) can be named Registered designation origin. - The season of grape harvest for the Crémant d’Aslsace (registered designation origin) generally takes place some days before the grape harvest for Alsatian designation. The picking must collect at least 145g of sugar by litre , meaning 8,5° of alcoholic degree.
From it start, this designation has been very successful. It nowadays represents 18% of the whole Alsatian wines.
